What is ‘Passion’ in the business context?

If passionate individuals are essential to driving the quest for scalable peer to peer learning, how do you define ‘passion’? John Hagel’s post explores the subject in the business context.

My favorite lines of this post are – “People who pursue their passions inevitably create beacons that attract others who share their passion.  Few of these beacons are consciously created; they are by-products of pursuing one’s passion.  Passionate people share their passions and creations widely, leaving trackers for others to find them”.

  • Passion is about perseverance
  • Passion is about pursuit
  • Passion is certainly not same as happiness
  • Passion is about discipline
  • Passion is about performance
  • Passion is about progression
  • Passion is about connecting
  • Passion pulls.
  • Passion is not predictable
  • Passion is about risk taking
  • Passion is about authenticity

I couldn’t agree more with your post on passion in a business context, especially the quote from John Hagel: “People who pursue their passions inevitably create beacons that attract others who share their passion…” – the same applies to Personal Branding – if a personal brand incorporates one’s passion (the best personal brands do), then not only will it be authentic, but it will attract the audience it was intended to attract.
